| From when to when did she work for you: | My daughter is 12 now. I think the first year she didn’t work for us, so she started working for me in 2013 |
| Why is she no longer employed? | Financial reasons. My children are older now, and I couldn’t afford both school fees and her salary. That’s the only reason. If I won the lottery, I’d bring her back. |
| What were her Duties? | he was mainly my nanny, looking after the children. She also used to tidy up, clean, and do washing while caring for the children. Once the children went to school, she would clean and tidy the house. She did not cook for me, but she did cook for the children, as they loved her food. |
| How old were the kids when she started work? | My daughter was four months old. With the other two children, she has been there since birth |
| How was her personality at work? | Mavis is family. If you are straightforward with her and tell her what you want and how you like things done, she will follow your lead. She is very adaptable. |
| What did she excel in? | The nanny part, definitely. Even today my children still ask for her to come visit. |
| What sort of activities did she do with the children? | She raised my children. She helped them with homework, played games with them, took them for walks, rode bicycles with them honestly, I’m trying to think of what she didn’t do. She was like their second mother. |
| Would you say she needs more training | It depends on the person, because everyone wants things done differently. If I told her how I wanted things done, she would do it that way. I can’t really say she needs training it’s more about communicating expectations.
She once worked for another couple who said she had too much energy, that she was too vibrant. So when employing her, you just need to tell her clearly how you want things done and she will follow. |
| Did anything go missing when she was working for you? | No. She was actually the one telling me where my things were. |
| Was she mostly on time for work? Live in or Live out | Yes. If anything happened, she would always let me know beforehand.
At first she travelled, especially when I was in Pretoria. When my husband passed away, she became live-in, and when I moved to Rustenburg she was also live-in. So I had her in both arrangements. |
| How many days in a week did she work? | 5 days a week, Full time |
| Did she give notice when she resigned/ if applicable? | N/A |
| Communication skills | Very good. I never had any issues. |
| Pets? | I had dogs. She is used to dogs. When we moved to Pretoria after Rustenburg, I had two Jack Russell’s and two Pit Bulls. They stayed outside and she was fine with them. I don’t know how she is with cats. |
| Would you recommend her services | Yes, definitely. She even helped raise my sister’s children and worked between both households. |
